Getting in trouble is one of the fun part of being a kids, we must definitely get in trouble, either with friends at home or in school, one way or the other we don’t escape getting into mess. As much as it sounds, they were the fun parts of being a kid, we are able to do things we want or go on adventure on anything out of curiosity. The following are things that got us in trouble as a kid in Nigeria;
1. Running Around
I don’t understand how we enjoyed running around as a kid, like you just wake up and run around the compound without a reason, seriously I find this really funny, why should running around be part of what made our childhood fun. Well, after running around, we eventually get in trouble, either pouring someone’s food away, pouring a water that was fetched with so much strength away, falling and injuring ourselves. Well, on top, we go still chop beating.
2. Playing Football
As a kid most of us were reall into football especially the guys and we mostly do this with our friends. I remember, once we wake up, we might not brush, especially those of us that grew up in face me I slap you, we rush outside to play football, we either hit the ball on an elder person, injure ourselves, break the local window (louvers) or tear our clothes while trying to drag the ball with each other. I don’t need to remind you of the premium beatings that comes with it.
3. Playing In The Rain
I can’t imagine how walking in the rain seems now, I feel really uncomfortable, but we literally played in the rain then, dancing and dancing, jumping and singing. You should remember, the floor becomes slippery, then we fall and injure ourselves, I don’t need to remind you that we get cold too. Our Nigerian mothers will never disappoint, as they’d still beat us for getting injury and for falling sick.
4. Rolling Tyres
Rolling our traditional car, which was tyre is one of the fun things we did as a kid and gets us in trouble most times. When we engage in this we are most likely to move from one neighborhood to another the blockbuster is we do not put on slippers or shoes, because it reduces speed.
5. Stuborness
This is the major reason most of us get in trouble. As kids we all want to do what’s on our mind and we don’t mind what others think. As long as our mind is made up about something there is almost nothing that could stop us from doing it and at the end we most times get our ass flogged.
6. Fighting
I don’t know where we saw strength, probably from Jet Lee and Bruce Lee, because we always wanted to show our fighting skills. The funniest is that we support our friends and get beaten too, then the premium beating continues at home.
7. Dirtying Our Uniform
Our parent tell us to have fun at school, but when we get back with dirty uniform, they beat life out of us. I don’t know why primary schools use light colored uniforms, any small play like this, white has turned brown and premium beatings await us.
8. Loosing Our Footwears
In the cause of playing football, we put off our Footwears, I don’t know if there are unseen spirits that steals a pair, after football, finding our footwear is the next work to do, well, we eventually don’t find it and we get in premium trouble for loosing a pair.
9. Buying Irrelevance
The best way to make money as kids was through visitors, once we greet them, we get money, why do we get money if we can’t spend? Ordinary Sweets bayii, we get big eyes.
10. Not Observing Eye
In this part of the world, there at different languages we must understand, one of which is Eye language, you just have to understand your mum rolling her eyes, using a side she to look at you. Once you don’t observe and follow, just know you’d get the beating of your life.
Actually, I am really confused as to why we get flogged for every fun we had as kids. Well, growing in a country like ours, especially Yoruba, we just get flogged for everything. Though kids do very annoying things but we should know that the way we treat them at this point in their life shapes a lot of things about their future and we should also remember that we are once like them. I’m sure some other things got us in trouble, mention them in the comment section!
