It has been a tough 8 months strike for both students and lecturers in Nigerian Federal Universities affected by the strike. The strike which began early this year was prolonged due to failure of ASUU and the Federal Government to reach an agreement. The disagreement between both parties looked impossible to settle as FG dragged ASUU to court after attempts efforts to end the strike seemed fruitless.
In the past week, the Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to call-off the ongoing strike immediately before any further appeal could be made. But students were thrown into joy this week, after the ASUU chairman claimed the ongoing strike was closer to its end than its continuity, thanks to the Speaker of the House of Assembly who intervened in the matter.
Now ASUU as a body need to collectively agree on whether to call of the strike. As a result, all ASUU branches need to hold a congress in order to cast votes in support of ending the strike or prolonging it.
The congress was held yesterday with all branches casting their votes in supporting of ending the strike, except for Obafemi Awolowo University ASUU strike who failed to reach an agreement due to quarrel.
Nevertheless, the ASUU NEC will collate all results today and decide on whether to call-off the strike.
While we await their decision, let us know if you want the strike to end or continue?
