On behalf of Great Ife Students’ Union, it is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to Oba Awon Universities, OAU. I hope you will discover over the next few months what I have discovered in my few years on Obafemi Awolowo University campus; that you have entered a lively, challenging, diverse and warm community.
The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University is popularly addressed as Great Ife Students’ Union. It is the leading and most vibrant Students’ Union in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. This Union is a body of over thirty thousand students. The primary purpose of the Union is to defend students’ fundamental rights both within and outside campus.
Our ideology is against social vices including but not limited to fighting, rape, sexual harassment and cultism. We uphold the tenets of intellectualism, learning and culture. Over time, we have maintained a sane society; therefore, we beseech you to join hands with us in keeping OAU campus a sane society by not tolerating any social vice.
As a student, I charge you to make good use of this opportunity of your admission to better your life. Thousands of candidates applied but only a few scaled the hurdles of the highly competitive admission process of the University. Congratulations that you are one of the few. I wish you a fulfilling academic journey in Great Ife.
